The so-called "tile valley" is the world's major district for the production of ceramic floor and wall tiles. The growth of this district has been further boosted by the production of associated products such as ceramic adhesives, glazes and machinery, thus creating a real area-system. Altogether, the district counts around 300 companies employing a total of 18,000 people. After the peaks of the Nineties, production is now around 400 million sq m of tiles (80% of national production, also including the municipalities of the province of Reggio Emilia) and turnover has reached 4 billion euro.
